Jose Mendoza

President/CEO

With the help of our esteemed colleagues, Jose founded California Community Education Center with a vision to help place a door to knowledge in every home. Jose has worked as a Legal Services Advocate at the LGBTQ Center Long Beach, and as an advocate for consumers with intellectual and developmental disabilities with Disability Rights California. A California Certified Domestic Violence Counselor, Jose is proud of their intersectional work on behalf of survivors, the LGBTQIA+, Deaf/Hard of Hearing, and Disability communities. With over a decade of experience in education, music, and the arts, Jose is focused on developing our organization through leadership and integrity.

Sophia Quintero

Vice President

Sophia is a SoCal-native with a Midwestern heart. She is a first-generation, Latina college graduate with a Masters of Public Health (MPH) in Health Promotion from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and a Bachelor's of Science in Foods and Nutrition. Sophia's volunteerism includes SDSU's Catholic Newman Center. As a Community Outreach Coordinator, Sophia works with Omaha Healthy Kids Alliance and Whispering Roots, nonprofits that help connect Latinx families with nutrition and health information. With her passion for promoting education in health and wellness, we are proud to have Sophia serve and share her invaluable expertise.

Alma Peña

Treasurer-Secretary

Alma is super excited to join our team! With her extensive history of administrative and managerial experience, Alma has become an integral member of our team. Her resume includes four years as an Office Manager at a nonprofit law firm and over three years as a Legal Secretary. Alma currently works with Disability Rights California, bringing expertise in diversity, equity, and inclusion to our organization.

Lena Vang

Director of Community Relations

California Community Education Center is proud to welcome Lena Vang to our Board of Directors, and for taking on the role of Instructor for Arts & Crafts. Lena is a first generation Hmong American, a full-time mom and professional who has worked in disability rights advocacy for five years. She received her Bachelor's in Social Work and is currently completing her Marriage and Family Therapist Master's program with Fresno Pacific University. We are so grateful to Lena for taking on supervision and oversight of our efforts in the Central Valley region.

Amanda Best

Instructor—Baking, Pastries and More

We are so proud to have Pastry Chef Amanda Best join our team! Amanda is a San Diego native and a full-time mom with over ten years of experience in the pastry world, including five years as a baker. With her Associates in Culinary Arts, Amanda brings a unique flair to her cake design and decorating skills. Amanda is thrilled to join our California Community Education Center Family. We look forward to expanding our organization through Baking, Pastries and More!

Agustin de la Cruz

Instructor—After School Music

Agustín is delighted to join California Community Education Center as a provider of online music lessons. His extensive experience with guitar, bass, piano, and singing makes him an integral part of the team. His favorite genres include classical, jazz, and R&B. Agustín is currently studying music at Southwestern College where his focus is on bass guitar and performing with the Latin Jazz and Concert Choir ensembles. His love for music grows each day as he advances his craft while also sharing his passion with others. Agustín has always had a love for music and is committed to sharing the joy of music with the community.
